Drawing from her own experiences in Bahamian and American cultures, April Bey’s work as both an artist and educator critically explores themes of race, identity, supremacy, and colonialism. Bey, a self-described Blerd, loves Harry Potter, fantasy, sci-fi and science fiction. She uses her love of reading to escape the past, imagine new futures and create a world that they want to live in. Bey’s series Atlantica reimagines everything from the way we live to the currency we use. The work takes on many forms, but is infused with a sharp sense for humor and an eye for design.
